Zion supports families: of all shapes and sizes

Child In Our Hands

Child In Our Hands is one of the primary ways Zion lives out its commitment to support families of all shapes and sizes. The ministry begins when a child is baptized. They receive a blanket to remind them that they are always wrapped in God’s love, a faith chest filled with resources for parents and caregivers, and a faith mentor from the congregation who promises to support them and pray for them in their life in Christ.

As that baptized child grows, Child In Our Hands encourages the people of Zion to celebrate with that child as he or she experiences significant faith milestones.

Some of these milestones include beginning Sunday School, receiving a Bible in 3rd grade, preparing to share in the gift of Holy Communion, affirming baptism (confirmation), and graduating from high school. As each milestone is celebrated, the children and their families meet with one of Zion ’s pastors or a members of the Child In Our Hands task force to receive instruction and resources. They are also acknowledged and celebrated during worship.

It is our hope that every child and adult at Zion knows that they are loved and cherished by their faith community and by God.
